After moving to Los Angeles this summer, I’ve gotten used to the warm weather, but lately the Santa Ana winds have made it chilly so I decided to make stew for the family and the pups. It’s pretty hard not to love stew! It’s comforting, warm, and perfect for those chilly days. Plus, it has all the ingredients and flavors I love.
This soup is for pups but it is great for humans too. It doesn’t include onions like a traditional crock-pot stew, because onions are toxic to dogs. If you want to make this soup for yourself then just add an onion, salt, pepper, 3/4 cup of tomato paste, 3 cloves of minced garlic, and 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce after serving your pup their portion first. You can also use red potatoes instead of sweet potatoes. The more colorful the potato then the better it is for your dog, which is why I use sweet potatoes.
Set a crock-pot to high and to cook for 6 1/2 hours. Add the chicken broth. Chop up carrots, sweet potato, celery ribs, zucchini, and stew meet and put in the pot. Next, add the dried parsley an stir. Put the lid on the crock-pot and let cook for 6 hours.
A half hour before serving, stir the flour and water together in a bowl. Add the mixture to the crock-pot. This will make the stew broth thicker. Next, add the peas. Mix until well combined. Cook for another 30 minutes with the lid on the pot. Let cool and serve.
